DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Nothing pleases me more than to see Detroit lose. And when it's to the Bulldogs, it's that much sweeter. LaVall Jordan put the clamps on Detroit's Rashad Phillips, and his Titan teammates weren't enough to beat the Bulldogs. Phillips, averaging 23 points a game coming in, was held to 9 points on 3-12 shooting and committed 7 turnovers, all thanks to a fantastic defensive effort by LaVall Jordan. Butler's strategy was to make someone besides Phillips beat us. The Titans tied things up at 53 in the second half, but couldn't get over the hump. The Bulldogs were a miserable 1-7 from the free throw line to start the second half, but made 11 of their last 12 (including their last 10 straight) from the charity stripe to seal the win. Jordan also led the way at the offensive end with 15 points. He had help from Thomas Jackson, who had 13 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and NO turnovers. Mike Marshall added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Rylan Hainje also had 11 points, and a crucial 3 point play in the second half.

Defense and clutch free throw shooting made the difference in this game. While we did a great job stopping Phillips, his teammates did what they could. The rest of the team shot 20 of 33, including 7-12 from 3-point range.

First place in the conference will be up for grabs this Saturday when the Cleveland State Vikings come to town. Thanks to an upset win by Wright State tonight, Butler is only 1/2 game out of first, and can move into sole possession of first with another home win. Game time is 1:30 (not the usual 2:00 Saturday start, don't ask me why). Hope to see you there.
