PLAYER OF THE GAME: Thomas Jackson. The 5'9" point guard scored 19 points, led the team with 6 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. He was also a sparkling 13-14 from the free throw line, which shows that he's taking the ball to the hole aggressively. Honorable mention goes to Brandon Miller, who led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 6 assists. Miller was also 5-10 from 3-point range, and a perfect 6-6 at the line.
Darnell Archey snapped out of a shooting funk with 11 points and 3 treys off the bench. Rylan Hainje added 9 points and 4 rebounds. Joel Cornette had 5 boards and 3 points before fouling out. Lonnie Thomas led the Ragin' Cajuns with game highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The 3-point shot came back for the Dawgs, as we finished 10-22 (45%). We held UL-Lafayette to just 3-18 (17%) from downtown. Overall, we shot 49% and held the Cajuns to 40% from the field. We were outrebounded 32-24. But by far the biggest positive to come out of this game (besides the victory) was our free throw percentage. We hit 92% (22-24) from the charity stripe. 3-pointers and free throws won the game for us.
Butler's next game is against the Lipscomb Bisons at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Lipscomb is in its first season of Division I basketball. Game time is Wednesday, January 3, at 7 pm. Hope to see you there.
