DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler's 18 game home winning streak was snapped in a forgettable performance against NC-Wilmington, as the host Bulldogs were defeated 53-48. With the game tied at 48 and the shot clock running down, UNCW's Barron Thelmon threw up a desperation 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer that found the bottom of the net. The Bulldogs were unable to match it at the other end, and were forced to foul. Butler now has a 3 game losing streak, and is headed in the wrong direction. The two previous defeats were mainly due to lack of defense. That wasn't the case today, as the Butler D of old returned. Unfortunately, we left our offense in Terre Haute. We held the Seahawks to 40% from the field, but only hit 35% ourselves. Free throw shooting continues to be a concern. We went to the line 22 times, yet only hit half of those attempts. We were also murdered on the boards, 39-25. Our lack of front line depth is really beginning to hurt us. And when the guards aren't hitting their shots, it REALLY hurts us.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Rylan Hainje led us with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. However, he was only 3-10 from the free throw line, and many of those misses were at inopportune times.

Joel Cornette had 11 points for Butler, the only other Bulldog in double digits. Brandon Miller continues to struggle offensively, finishing with 3 points on 1-8 shooting.

While our offense was pathetic, our defense was outstanding. We held UNCW's top shooter, Brett Blizzard, to 3-14 FG. We forced 14 turnovers and had 8 steals. The Seahawks didn't even get to the free throw line until Blizzard's 2 makes at the very end.

With the win streak snapped, the Bulldogs must now focus on ending their losing streak. Their next chance will be at home on Monday, December 18, against Tennessee-Martin. Game time is 7 pm. Hope to see you there.
