DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler avenged last season's loss at Santa Clara, and then some. The Bulldogs hit a school record 17 3-point baskets en route to an 84-60 victory over the visiting Broncos. The Dawgs shot 57% from the field for the game, and 59% from 3-point range. The first half was particularly impressive, as Butler shot 64% overall and an unbelievable 9-of-12 (75%) from downtown.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: There were so many solid performances, but I'm going with Darnell Archey. The spindly sophomore came off the bench and nailed 3 straight 3-pointers in the first half, starting a 16-4 run. He finished with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.

Darnell had plenty of help. Brandon Miller was a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range, and finished with 17 points and 4 assists. Thomas Jackson was outstanding, finishing with 14 points (4-6 from 3), 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Joel Cornette added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. LaVall Jordan finished with 13 points and 4 assists. And Rylan Hainje, while only scoring 4 points, dished out a game high 6 assists and had a pair of steals. Santa Clara was led by Brian Jones' 13 points.

The NC-Wilmington game showed what happens when our guards aren't shooting well. This game showed what happens when they are. It almost became comical--at one point, we had more points on 3-point baskets (48) than Santa Clara had in total (45).

The Dawgs don't have long to savor this victory, because the Texas Christian Horned Frogs are just around the corner. TCU will be the toughest opponent we face at Hinkle this season, and we will need to bring our A-game on both ends of the court in order to win. We defeated TCU at their place last season, and I'm sure that's fresh on their minds. Game time is Saturday, December 23, at 2 pm. Hope to see you there.
