PLAYER OF THE GAME: For the first time this season, I can't single out one performance. This was truly a team effort at both ends of the floor. LaVall Jordan had the hot hand in the first half with 18 points, and finished with a game-high 21 on 8-of-11 shooting (4-of-6 from 3-point range). Brandon Miller picked up where Vall left off in the second half, scoring 9 points (all on 3's) en route to 17 for the game. Miller finished 5-for-8 from downtown, and pulled down 4 rebounds. Thomas Jackson scored 14 points, was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and dished out 6 assists with only 1 turnover. Rylan Hainje added 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Joel Cornette had 5 points and 3 blocks. Mike Moore provided solid bench play for the second straight game, finishing with 5 points and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes.
For the 3rd straight meeting, Jordan's defense made Rashad Phillips a non-factor. Phillips, the reigning MCC Player of the year, finished with a season low 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting. He had no assists and 3 turnovers in 29 minutes. Willie Green, guarded most of the game by Jackson, was just 2-of-12 from the field despite a 7 inch height advantage. Detroit enjoyed a 35-23 rebound advantage, but that was inflated by the Detroit big men rebounding their own missed layups.
The Bulldogs play again next Saturday when they travel up north to face the Wisconsin contingent of the MCC. First up is Wisconsin-Milwaukee on January 20 at 8 pm EST.
