DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler overcame a dismal first half performance and a 10-point deficit early in the second half to defeat host Wisconsin-Milwaukee 60-51. It was the Bulldogs' first conference road victory, and moved them into a first place tie with UIC at 3-1 in the MCC. Things didn't look good early for Butler, as it took them 5 minutes to put any points on the board. Fortunately, the Dawgs didn't let their offense dictate their defense. Trademark Butler defense kept the score close enough that when the offense did finally get on track, they weren't in too big of a hole to dig out of. Butler mustered just 18 points in the first half on 27% shooting, yet only trailed by seven. The Panthers pushed their lead out to 10 early in the second half, but the Bulldogs fought tooth and nail to get back into it. They wound up shooting 65% in the second half and outrebounded the Panthers 16-5. For the game, Butler shot 44% from the field, and tied the Panthers 26-26 in the rebound battle.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Joel Cornette. JC once again came within a rebound of a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 9 rebounds. He also had a one-handed put back dunk that had everyone talking.

Rylan Hainje deserves special mention. He led the team with 15 points, the first time this season that Butler has won a game that he led us in scoring. Rylan also had 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. Darnell Archey had 10 points off the bench, including a 3-pointer at the 14:57 mark in the first half that finally put us on the board. LaVall Jordan added 7 points and 8 rebounds. Clay Tucker led the Panthers with a game high 16 points.

The biggest plus to take from this game is the way we finished it out. This looked all too familiar for a while, where we would start poorly, fight back, and then lose on a last second shot. Not this time, as we not only fought back, but we put it away. It took great efforts at both ends of the floor to win this game. If we can play a full 40 minutes with the same tenacity they showed in the second half, we'll be tough to beat.

Butler looks to extend its winning streak in the state of Wisconsin to 11 games when they travel to Wisconsin-Green Bay to battle the Phoenix. Game time is Monday, January 22, at 8 pm EST.
