DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler enjoyed one of its biggest wins in recent memory, upsetting the #10 Wisconsin Badgers on their home floor 58-44. Wisconsin, who hadn't been in the AP top ten since the 60's, won't be there much longer, thanks to strong play from Butler's 3-guard lineup. After jumping out to a 15-8 first half lead, the Bulldogs hit a dry spell that allowed Wisconsin back in the game. The game was tied at 20 apiece at halftime, but Butler beat Wisconsin at its own game in the second half. They defended well, they forced turnovers, and they shot well. End result: a 14-point victory which snapped the Badgers' 11-game home winning streak and 20-game home winning streak over non-conference opponents.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Thomas Jackson. Despite being the shortest player on the floor, TJ picked apart the vaunted Badger defense all night. He used a high screen at the top of the key to get things started, and used penetration to either go to the basket, shoot an elbow jumper, or dish to a teammate. Thomas finished with 14 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals while committing just one turnover. Good things happen when Thomas gets in the lane, and plenty of them happened in this game. My hat is off to TJ for a fantastic effort.

Brandon Miller was huge for Butler on offense. He finished with a game-high 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range, including one long-range bomb that was a dagger for the hosts. He also pulled down 4 rebounds. Joel Cornette had a couple of highlight film dunks en route to 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. LaVall Jordan (or "LaVell" if you're the idiot color commentator for ESPN Full Court) added 7 points and 5 rebounds. Rob Walls had a key put-back in the second half off the bench, and he and Scott Robisch each had 3 rebounds. The Badgers were led by Kirk Penney's 9 points off the bench.

I can't describe how proud I am of our effort in this game. We were dead even on the boards against a much taller team. We shot 48% for the game, where Wisconsin had been holding visiting teams to 51.6 ppg and 37%. We shot 41% from 3-point range. Mike Kelley, UW's much-hyped defender, finished with 5 fouls and no steals. We only turned the ball over 7 times, and forced Wisconsin into 11 turnovers. We had 8 steals, and Jackson's 4 steals were more than the Badgers had as a team (3). A great team effort, and a huge win for Butler.

The Bulldogs return to MCC play, and first up is Wright State. The Raiders beat the Bulldogs by a point in Dayton, so revenge will be on our minds. Game time is Saturday, February 3, at 2 pm. It will be in front of a national TV audience on ESPN. Hope to see you there.
