PLAYER OF THE GAME: Rylan Hainje. When I say we got lucky, it's not to discount Rylan's effort. He had a season high 26 points. He pulled down 9 rebounds (7 offensive), and had 2 steals. He was 10-of-14 from the field, and only turned the ball over once in 39 minutes. His play was solid, and kept us in the game.
Rylan had plenty of help from his teammates. All 5 starters scored in double figures. Cornette had his second double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds. He also blocked 5 shots. LaVall Jordan added 13 points and 5 rebounds, and scored 6 straight points for Butler during a key run in the second half. Miller finished with 16 points and was 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Thomas Jackson added 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jason Frederick led the Panthers with 19 points off the bench.
As I said, we were very fortunate to win this game. Had the Panthers made better decisions in the latter stages of the game, I'd be writing about a devastating loss. As it stands, we're still in the hunt for an at-large bid. And the Bulldogs, while they didn't play their best basketball, did what they needed to do to win. In the end, that's all that matters.
Butler's final home game is this Saturday against Wisconsin-Green Bay. It will also be senior LaVall Jordan's final game on the Hinkle hardwood. Come pay tribute to Vall and all the memories he's provided us during the past 4 years. Game time is Saturday, February 17, at noon. The game will be televised on FoxSports Midwest.
