DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler avenged its earlier loss to Wright State by defeating the Raiders 59-48 in front of 8,277 fans at Hinkle Fieldhouse and a national TV audience on ESPN. The game was back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes, with Wright State in the lead 15-14 at the 9:25 mark. But that was the last lead the Raiders would have, as Butler went on a 19-6 run to head to the locker room with a 33-21 halftime lead. The Raiders never got closer than 9 points in the second half. The victory put Butler in sole possession of second place in the conference, half a game behind Cleveland State.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Joel Cornette. JC continues to show us what he can do, with a strong offensive performance and a couple of high-flying dunks. But his defense was equally impressive, especially considering he was guarding All-MCC center Israel Sheinfeld for most of the game. Sheinfeld finished with just 5 points, all on free throws. Joel finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Butler's first double-double of the year. He also added 4 blocks, 3 steals, and hit both of his free throws despite his struggles from the line this season. Another all-around solid effort.

Thomas Jackson also had another solid game. TJ finished with 15 points and 4 assists with no turnovers. Rylan Hainje added 9 points and 4 rebounds, and Brandon Miller had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Wright State was led by Kevin Melson's 21 points.

Butler finished dead even with the Raiders in rebounding, 33-33. They forced 16 Wright State turnovers while only committing 9. The Bulldogs had 8 steals to the Raiders' zero. Neither team shot well (BU 40%, WSU 35%), but the Dawgs did their usual damage from downtown (7-of-15, 47%).

Butler faces a challenging MCC road trip next week that will test the Bulldogs' toughness. Up first is Detroit at Calihan Hall, where the Titans have the nation's 4th longest winning streak. Game time is Thursday, February 8th, at 8:30 pm EST. The game will be televised on FoxSports Midwest.
