PLAYER OF THE GAME: Thomas Jackson. The senior joined Butler's 1,000-point club with 12 first-half points, becoming the 26th Bulldog to reach that milestone and the second this season (fellow senior Rylan Hainje did so against Lipscomb on Monday.) He finished with a double-double, scoring 19 points and dishing out 11 assists, and had no turnovers in 33 minutes. He's such a great player, and he makes his teammates better with his unselfish play.
All five starters finished in double digits. Hainje had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. He now has 1,021 career points, two behind J.P. Brens for 24th all-time. Joel Cornette added 14 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. Scott Robisch added 14 points, including a 3-pointer. Brandon Miller had 14 points on just five field goal attempts. Mike Monserez continued his hot shooting at Hinkle, nailing all four of his 3-point attempts for 12 points off the bench. Lewis Curry finished with 5 points (including a trey for points 99, 100, and 101), Darnell Archey added 3, and Rob Walls hit a jumper for 2. Evansville was led by Dan Lytle's 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Twenty-six of Butler's 35 baskets were assisted, a tribute to how unselfish this team is. Eight different Dawgs had an assist. They forced 23 turnovers and only committed 6. Evansville outrebounded Butler 33-29, but that was about the only thing the Aces did better than their counterparts. It was all Butler today, from beginning to end.
Butler gets a week off for finals before returning to the Hinkle hardwood for a game against Northern Iowa. The Panthers knocked off Iowa and will be a tough test for the Bulldogs. Game time is Saturday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
