DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler overcame a sluggish first half by outscoring Indiana State 38-21 in the second 20 minutes and defeated the visiting Sycamores 69-49. ISU jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, and stayed ahead or tied until the 5:46 mark when Darnell Archey hit a jumper to give the host Bulldogs a 21-20 lead. Butler pushed their lead to six before a late Sycamore 3-pointer by Jake Sams pulled ISU to within 31-28 at the half. The game was tied at 33 at the 18:00 mark, then Butler went on a 7-0 run. The Sycamores cut it back to 3 at 40-37 and again at 42-39, then Lewis Curry scored 7 straight points to put Butler in control at 49-39. ISU would not get closer than 9 the rest of the way.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Curry. The junior who missed the final half of last season with a knee injury provided the Bulldogs with some much needed offense and spark off the bench during the critical run in the second half. He finished a perfect 5-of-5 from the field including a pair of threes for a career-high 12 points in just 8 minutes. It was good to see Lew back on the floor and nailing some jumpers.

Rylan Hainje led all scorers with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting. He also hit a pair of treys and pulled down 6 rebounds. Thomas Jackson added 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Brandon Miller had a quiet 8 points, but dished out 5 assists and had 4 steals. Joel Cornette added 9 points and 8 rebounds along with a pair of blocked shots. Scott Robisch had 5 points on a tough shooting night. Also struggling from the field was Archey, who finished with just 2 points. Mike Moore made the most of his minute of playing time with a put-back bucket for 2 points, a blocked shot, and a steal. ISU was led by a pair of bench players, Matt Berry (15 points) and Sams (13).

It wasn't pretty, but far be it from me to get picky over a 20-point win. Butler will definitely need to be much better at both ends of the court on Tuesday at Purdue. But to their credit, they turned up the intensity on both offense and defense in the second half and won going away. They held the Sycamores to 28% shooting in the second half, down from 42% in the opening frame. They also improved their shooting from 41% in the first to 54% in the second. They forced 19 ISU turnovers while committing just 9, and had 8 steals. The Sycamores outrebounded Butler 38-32.

The Bulldogs travel to West Lafayette and Mackey Arena to face the Purdue Boilermakers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27--PLEASE NOTE THAT TIPOFF HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM 8:00 TO 7:30. Hope to see you there.

Gary Nash from New Castle, IN:
Good analysis of today's tilt. Really great to see Lewis
Curry come off the bench with a solid effort in such a short appearance.
Todd may start giving him more playing time with continued play like
this. The "New Castle Connection" (Miller & Archey) didn't have one of
their better games. It will definitely take a stronger effort on
Tuesday at Purdue. Later. Gary

Arch from Chicago, IL:

Nice recap. It's amazing, but I also wasn't satisfied with the 20-point
win! How far this program has come...

I'm sure Purdue is as big a game for you as it is me. I think we can
walk in there and dominate. Let's hope Robisch and Archey get back on
track.
