DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Clay Tucker hit a last-second 3-pointer to beat the Bulldogs, 73-72. Both teams played fairly evenly throughout the first half, with Butler taking a 28-26 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs seemed to take control with a 13-point lead at 50-37 with 11:39 to go, but the Panthers scored six points in the next 11 seconds on a pair of UWM 3-pointers sandwiched around a Butler turnover. The Panthers would go on to hit five more treys, including the game-winner, to finish with 10 for the game after hitting just two in the first half. Despite the Panthers' hot shooting, Butler led from the 18:08 mark in the second half until Tucker's heave. It was 72-68 Bulldogs after a pair of Thomas Jackson free throws with 1:38 to go. UWM got a quick layup by Adrian Tigert coming out of a timeout to pull the Panthers within two. The Bulldogs then turned the ball over after the ball evidently bounced off of a referee's foot out of bounds, setting up UWM's final possession.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jackson. TJ had a career-high 27 points to go along with four assists and four steals, and was 5-of-9 from 3-point range.

Joel Cornette finished with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds, and also blocked three shots. Rylan Hainje added 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Brandon Miller had another solid outing with seven points and seven rebounds in 38 minutes. Scott Robisch finished with six points and played some solid defense. Darnell Archey and Mike Monserez had three points apiece off the bench, and Rob Walls hit a free throw for a point to go along with a pair of rebounds. Tucker led UWM with 24 points.

Coach Lickliter pointed to two stats he felt made the difference: Butler's 14 turnovers, and UWM's 15 offensive rebounds. He said that by not coming up with loose balls and defensive rebounds on Milwaukee's end of the floor, the Panthers were able to kick the ball out for an open 3-pointer before our defense could get in position to contest the shot. The bitter irony in all of this is that the offense seemed to be clicking pretty well after having its share of struggles previously, and that the defense allowed 47 second half points.

The Bulldogs close out their three-game homestand with a game against Loyola, who sits atop the current league standings at a perfect 6-0. Game time is Wednesday, January 23, at 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised locally on Butler's TV station, WTBU channel 69. Hope to see you there.
