PLAYER OF THE GAME: Darnell Archey. DA was absolutely on fire today, finishing with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting and 6-of-7 from 3-point range. After battling through a mid-season shooting slump, Archey has been heating up of late, but today he was simply amazing.
Three other Bulldogs joined Archey in double figures. Scott Robisch had a solid effort with 14 points and six rebounds. Rylan Hainje added 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and four assists. One of those assists led to one of many Bulldog highlights for the afternoon: Rylan had an easy breakaway dunk, but at the last minute flipped the ball back over his shoulder to Joel Cornette, who absolutely posterized Marlon Williamson on a dunk. Cornette finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of steals. Thomas Jackson added six points and five assists with no turnovers. Brandon Miller struggled from the field at 0-for-7 and finished with just one point, but had three assists and two steals. Rob Walls had four points off the bench, and Mike Monserez added three points, five rebounds, and five assists. Mike Moore hit a pair of free throws for two points. YSU was led by Stephen Flores' 14 points, all in the first half.
This was one as lopsided as it looked like it would be coming in. Youngstown is a young team that struggles offensively, and Butler's defense held them to 39% shooting for the game. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Penguins 36-30, forced 16 YSU turnovers while committing just seven of their own, and made nine steals. They also moved the ball very well, as evidenced by their 17 assists.
The Bulldogs hit the road for the final time in the regular season when they travel to Chicago to face the Loyola Ramblers. Game time is Wednesday, February 20, at 8 p.m. EST.
