DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs used a 15-6 run at the end of the first half to turn a 13-10 lead into a 28-16 halftime advantage and cruised to a 59-42 victory over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. Butler took a 6-4 lead at the 14:45 mark and did not relinquish it for the remainder of the game. Both teams struggled to score early, combining for just 23 points in the game's first 11 and a half minutes. But the Bulldogs found their stride offensively and kept the clamps on Miami defensively to take a 12-point lead into the locker room. Butler shot 50% for the half, and held Miami to just 26%, including 0-of-7 from 3-point range. The Redhawks made a little run to start the second half, but the Bulldogs found their outside shooting touch and buried 6-of-10 3-pointers in the second half to keep the RedHawks from ever seriously challenging. For the game, Butler shot 49% from the field (47% from 3-point range), and held the host RedHawks to just 35% (15% 3-point FG).

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Duane Lightfoot, Jr. Duane continues to provide invaluable minutes off the bench. Tonight's stat line: 16 points (7-10 FG), five rebounds, two steals, an assist, and no turnovers in 29 minutes. All summer we kept hearing about how hard he was working and how much he improved, and the results thus far more than back that up. He has yet to play a game this year in which I was disappointed by his effort, and something tells me that I won't be.

Darnell Archey joined Lightfoot in double figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Bruce Horan nailed all three of his attempts from long range for nine points. Joel Cornette finished with seven points and five assists, and Brandon Miller added five points and five rebounds. Avery Sheets also finished with five points, and Mike Monserez chipped in three points, four rebounds, and a game-high six assists (equalling Miami's team total for that statistic). Mike has an uncanny knack for finding an open teammate and delivering a perfect pass exactly where it needs to be to lead to a basket. Lewis Curry had a field goal for two points. Miami's lone double-digit scorer was Danny Horace, who finished with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

As I mentioned in my preview for this game, there was a good chance that it would be a low-scoring affair where the first team to 50 would win. Not only was Butler the first team to reach 50, they were the only team. Butler's defense was once again phenomenal, and they were very patient against Miami's stingy defense, moving the ball well enough to have 16 assists on 22 field goals. The Bulldogs took care of the ball as well, committing just seven turnovers. Certainly a different kind of challenge from the one they faced against Bradley on Tuesday, but one they met head-on and passed with flying colors.

The Bulldogs get a week to prepare for their next opponent. The St. Louis Billikens come to Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 21, for a 2:00 p.m. EST game. Hope to see you there.
