DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

In each of the past two seasons, Butler's first meeting with Wright State has led to the Bulldogs' first Horizon League loss. The Bulldogs avoided an unwanted hat trick by defeating the Raiders at the Nutter Center, 81-70. WSU's Seth Doliboa hit a 3-pointer for the game's first basket, and the teams battled back and forth for much of the first half. It was 24-24 when a Darnell Archey 3-pointer gave Butler a lead it would not relinquish. The Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 35-32 lead.

The Raiders stayed within striking distance for about the first half of the second frame. They were within three at 48-45 when the Bulldogs went on an 11-4 run to push their lead to double-digits at 59-49. The Raiders would get no closer than eight as the Bulldogs cruised to an 81-70 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Duane Lightfoot, Jr. Duane had a career-high 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and also pulled down five rebounds--all in 20 minutes. Thirteen of his points came over the final eight minutes of the game, and he played a good portion of those minutes with four fouls. Another fantastic effort from Duane off the bench.

Duane had plenty of help. Joel Cornette had 16 points and five rebounds, and made a pair of key baskets during the 11-4 run midway through the second half. Brandon Miller also finished with 16 points, and dished seven assists against just two turnovers. Archey finished with 8 points, and hit both his free throw attempts to extend his streak to 84 consecutive freebies without a miss. Avery Sheets had five points off the bench, and fellow freshman Jeff James added four points before fouling out. Mike Monserez had four points and hauled down eight rebounds to go along with four assists. Lewis Curry finished with three points, and Rob Walls added his first basket of the season for two points. Wright State was led by Doliboa's 25 points and nine rebounds.

Wright State clearly wanted to take away the Bulldogs' perimeter attack, and limited Butler to just 10 3-point attempts (although they did connect on five). Butler responded by getting the ball inside, and Lightfoot and Cornette took care of the rest. The Bulldogs outscored the Raiders 48-36 in the paint, and outrebounded them 27-18. Another good road win in a difficult environment.

The Bulldogs return home for the final time in the month of January when they welcome the Youngstown State Penguins to Hinkle Fieldhouse for a Saturday afternoon HL match-up. Game time is Saturday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
