DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Bradley Braves overcame a 16-point first half deficit and defeated the Butler Bulldogs, 59-55. It was a tale of two halves for the Bulldogs. Butler shot 44% from the floor, including 4-of-11 (36%) from three-point range, en route to a 31-20 halftime lead. They led by as many as 16 points at 31-15, scoring 14 unanswered points during one stretch, but a 5-0 Bradley run over the final 30 seconds of the half closed the gap. The Braves' momentum carried over into the second frame as Bradley scored the first nine points of the half to close within two at 31-29. The Bulldogs held on to the lead until a Phillip Gilbert three-pointer knotted the score at 48 apiece with around six and a half minutes remaining. The Braves would take the lead for good at 51-50 on a James Gillingham free throw with four and a half minutes to go. Butler had some good looks down the stretch, but could not get them to fall, and the Braves were victorious, 59-55.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Avery Sheets. Avery continues to do a tremendous job taking care of the ball. He committed only one turnover in 38 minutes, putting his totals for the season at just five turnovers in 213 minutes. He also dished out a game-high eight assists to go along with 11 points and a pair of steals.

Bruce Horan led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points, connecting on four three-point baskets and converting all three free throws after drawing a foul on another attempt from behind the arc. Duane Lightfoot added 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Mike Monserez had five points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Nick Brooks added five points off the bench. Jeff James, Brian Ligon, and Brandon Crone each finished with two points. James also pulled down four rebounds. Bradley was led by Gilbert's game-high 18 points.

Had the Bulldogs been able to close out the first half better than they did, I can't help but think that the second half might have played out differently. But that little run that Bradley made in the last 30 seconds really seemed to swing the momentum to the Braves, and it certainly carried over into the second half. Butler's three-point shooting woes continued, particularly in the second half when they shot just 2-of-15 (13%). 2-of-15 was also the three-point shooting total of every Bulldog not named Bruce Horan tonight. The shooting will come around. The second half defense was a concern, as Bradley nearly doubled their first half output while shooting 58%. On the plus side for Butler, they outrebounded the Braves 28-25, and 14 assists on 20 baskets shows me that they are moving the ball better. Obviously the Bulldogs haven't put together a complete 40 minutes of late, yet they are just a handful of possessions away from being 6-0. When they do put it all together, the results should be pretty impressive.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Bulldogs, as a trip to Bloomington to face the Indiana Hoosiers looms on the horizon. Game time is Saturday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
