DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Illinois-Chicago Flames advanced to the Horizon League Tournament Championship game with a 65-56 defeat of the Butler Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The two teams, meeting for the second time in a week, battled to a 29-29 tie at halftime. Bruce Horan's five first-half three-pointers keyed the Bulldogs, who were 6-of-12 from behind the arc in the opening frame but were outrebounded 17-10. UIC's Cedric Banks scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half, and the Flames continued to pound the boards to take control of the game. UIC never trailed in the second half, and while the Bulldogs got close at times, they were never able to get over the hump. The Flames hit all eight of their free throws down the stretch to clinch a 65-56 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Duane Lightfoot. The senior played one of his best defensive games of the season, finishing with four blocked shots and a steal along with 15 points and seven rebounds. He was 6-of-8 from the field.

Horan led the Bulldogs with 18 points, as UIC held him without a field goal in the second half until the final minute. Nick Brooks had seven points, three rebounds, and two blocks off the bench. Avery Sheets had six points, and Brandon Crone added six points and three rebounds. Senior Mike Monserez finished with four points, three rebounds, and three assists. UIC was led by Banks' 22 points.

To Mike, Duane, Nick, and Ryan: thanks for four great years. It's been a pleasure to watch you each mature and grow over your careers. Best of luck in your future endeavors, and I hope we see you all at Hinkle again in the future. To the returning players: work hard this summer, and continue to improve. You all made tremendous progress this season, and I can't wait to see what you'll look like by the time next season rolls around.

See you all at Hinkle next fall!
