DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Indiana Hoosiers held the Butler Bulldogs to 29% shooting in the second half en route to a 62-50 victory at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The game stayed close early, with Butler taking a 12-10 lead with 12:30 to go in the half. The Hoosiers then went on a 16-4 run to take a 10-point lead at 26-16. Butler then scored eight straight points as part of an 11-2 run to pull within one at 28-27. IU scored the final basket of the half to take a 30-27 lead into the locker room. The Hoosiers maintained their lead throughout the second half, at one point pushing it out to 45-36. But the Bulldogs scored seven straight points to pull within striking distance at 45-43 with just over seven minutes remaining. It was 47-45 Hoosiers when a three-pointer by Avery Sheets that would have put Butler in the lead bounced out. IU scored 15 of the game's final 20 points to seal the victory, 62-50.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sheets. Avery left it all on the court once again, playing 39 minutes. He finished with a team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of assists while committing just one turnover.

Butler's other double figure scorer was Mike Monserez, who finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Bruce Horan had nine points, while Duane Lightfoot added seven points and three rebounds. Brandon Crone finished with four points and four rebounds off the bench. Brian Ligon had three points and two rebounds in his first collegiate start. Jeff James, coming off the bench for the first time this season, added a basket for two points. The Hoosiers were led by Bracey Wright's 22 points and nine rebounds.

Our second half shooting was greatly influenced by some solid defense by the Hoosiers. I didn't think we took bad shots, but IU certainly didn't give us anything easy. The hosts were also very aggressive on the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs 36-23. Butler's shooting woes, coupled with the Hoosiers shooting 17-18 (94%) from the free throw line in the second half, ended any hopes of a Bulldog comeback.

The Bulldogs take some time away from the hardwood to concentrate on finals. Their next contest will be back at Hinkle Fieldhouse to face the Indiana State Sycamores. Game time is Saturday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
