PLAYER OF THE GAME: Mike Monserez. It won't be often that a player finishing with two points will get this honor, but you don't often see someone who scores two points come within an assist of a double-double either. Mike battled through an 0-for-6 night from the field, including 0-of-5 from three-point range, to pull down 10 rebounds and dish out nine assists. After the game, he credited his teammates for his assist total. "The thing about an assist is, all it is is just a pass if the guy doesn't make a shot," Monserez said. "It's nice to have nine assists, but guys like James Parker, Bruce Horan, Avery, Duane (Lightfoot)--all those guys finish plays."
A pair of Bulldogs shared team-high scoring honors. Sheets and Lightfoot finished with 12 points each. Sheets had three rebounds, three assists, and no turnovers in 29 minutes, while Lightfoot added four rebounds and a pair of blocks. James Parker had 11 points off the bench. Jeff James had 10 points in 16 minutes. Bruce Horan, Brian Ligon, and Crone each finished with six points. Nick Gardner added three points and four rebounds off the bench. Quincy was led by Cory Cummens' game-high 23 points.
It wasn't always pretty, but it certainly got the job done. There were a few lapses, but overall I felt the defense Butler played was pretty good for this time of year. The Bulldogs outrebounded Quincy 29-20, and held the visitors to 38% shooting for the game.
The Bulldogs hit the road for a game at Northern Iowa. The Panthers are always tough to beat at the UNI-Dome, and should prove to be a good early road test for Butler. Game time is Tuesday, November 25, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
