DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half and defeated a determined Wayne State squad, 69-60. I was on vacation this past week and unable to attend the game, so my analysis will be limited to the box score. Butler trailed 31-27 at halftime and 45-34 with around 13 minutes to go, but the Bulldogs went on a 20-2 run and held Wayne State without a basket for eight minutes to take control.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Bruce Horan. The sophomore sharpshooter scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the second half on four big three-pointers, and helped key the pivotal run. For the game, Bruce was 5-of-9 from long range and pulled down three rebounds.

Three other Bulldogs joined Horan in double figures. Duane Lightfoot, Jr., had 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting and pulled down five rebounds. Mike Monserez added 11 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Jeff James finished with 10 points and four rebounds. James Parker had six points and five rebounds off the bench. Brandon Crone had five points, and Avery Sheets added four points and three steals. Brian Ligon and Nick Gardner finished with two points each. Wayne State was led by Kendall LeSure and James Davis with 13 points apiece.

With the exhibition season finished, Butler is set to kick off the 2003-2004 campaign. First up are the Quincy Hawks, who visit Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m. Hope to see you there.
