DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs got a much-needed win by pounding the Phoenix of Wisconsin-Green Bay 70-47 at the Resch Center. Butler wasted little time in setting the tone for the game, scoring the game's first five points as part of a 20-2 run to start the contest. UWGB responded with a 13-0 run of its own to make it 20-15, but would get no closer. The Bulldogs closed the half on a 14-8 run to take a 34-23 halftime lead. Butler avoided a slow start out of the gates in the second half as the Bulldogs used an 11-0 run to pull ahead 48-27. UWGB got within 13 points twice, but the Bulldogs responded once again with an 8-0 run to take control of the contest at 62-41 and cruised to a 70-47 victory on the road.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Avery Sheets. Avery busted out of his shooting slump in a big way tonight, going 7-of-12 from the field (6-of-9 from three-point range) to finish with 20 points along with five rebounds and three assists.

A. J. Graves finished with 13 points and four assists. Bruce Horan added 12 points. Brandon Polk had 11 points and five rebounds. Gary Patterson finished with seven points off the bench. Brandon Crone had four points and eight rebounds, while Brian Ligon addded three points and four rebounds. UWGB was led by Javier Mendiburu's 15 points.

This was quite possibly Butler's best and most complete effort of the season thus far. They shot well, defended well, and rebounded well, all aspects which they've struggled with at one point or another on this road trip. Perhaps UWGB was primed for a let down two days after defeating league-leading Wisconsin-Milwaukee, but it's hard to find fault with such a dominating effort from start to finish by the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of Hinkle Fieldhouse for a contest with the Loyola Ramblers. Game time is Thursday, February 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m. EST following the conclusion of the Butler women's game. Hope to see you there.
