DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs continued their hot shooting from the perimeter as they defeated the Loyola Ramblers 79-51 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. A Bruce Horan three-pointer at the 15:40 mark broke an 11-11 tie and gave Butler a lead it would not relinquish. The Bulldogs led by as many as 10 points in the opening frame (30-20), and took a 37-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. Butler scored the first nine points of the second half, and pushed their lead to 21 points with another 9-0 run to make it 59-38 at the 11:23 mark. Loyola would get no closer than 18 from that point forward, and Butler had its largest lead at 28 points with the final score, 79-51.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Avery Sheets. Avery had his second consecutive big game, finishing a perfect 7-of-7 from three-point range en route to a career-high 26 points. He also dished out five assists and pulled down three rebounds.

Three Bulldogs joined Avery in double figures. A. J. Graves finished with 16 points and three steals. Brandon Polk added 14 points and seven rebounds. Bruce Horan had 11 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Brandon Crone finished with six points. Gary Patterson had three points, Nick Brooks added two points, and Brian Ligon finished with one point. Loyola was led by DaJuan Gouard's 17 points.

The three-guard starting lineup produced another solid effort from the perimeter as the Bulldogs finished 13-of-21 (62%) from three-point range. Sheets' 7-of-7 effort broke Jon Neuhouser's team record for three-point accuracy of 6-for-6. Butler forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 24 points. As their defense and rebounding continue to improve, there have been more opportunities to push the ball up the floor in transition, and the Bulldogs have become more comfortable with taking advantage of those opportunities.

The Bulldogs look to push their win streak to three games when they travel to Wright State to face the Raiders. Game time is Monday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. EST.
