DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs used a hot-shooting first half to defeat the Youngstown State Penguins 79-59 at the Beeghly Center. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, but the Penguins battled back to tie the game at 18-18 with 9:36 to go in the half. The Bulldogs then scored seven unanswered points and eventually pushed their lead to as many as 13 points at 40-27, and would take a 44-32 halftime lead. Butler shot 64% in the opening frame, including 6-of-7 (86%) from three-point range. YSU got to within nine points twice early in the second half, but a decisive 16-4 run gave the Bulldogs a 62-41 lead with 13:04 to go. Butler's lead stayed between 18 and 25 points for the rest of the game, with the final margin being 20 at 79-59

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Brandon Polk. Brandon continues his solid play, finishing with game-highs of 24 points (tying his career best) and six rebounds. He also hit his first three-pointer of the season.

Bruce Horan connected on four three-pointers en route to 13 points. Avery Sheets added 12 points and seven assists. Jamie Smalligan had 12 points and three rebounds. Brandon Crone finished with nine points and five rebounds, and A. J. Graves added nine points and four assists. YSU was led by Brian Radakovich's 14 points.

After being limited to just 11 attempts by YSU in the first meeting at Hinkle, the Bulldogs hit 11 three-pointers in 16 attempts (69%) tonight. Six different Butler players made at least one shot from behind the arc. Overall the Bulldogs shot 59% for the game, and had 16 assists on 29 baskets. After experiencing their fair share of struggles on the road this season, it's good to see them play so well in their final regular season road game.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season with a home game against the UIC Flames. Game time is Saturday, February 26, at 12:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on FoxSports Midwest, FoxSports Detroit, and FoxSports North. Hope to see you there.
