DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs held the Ball State Cardinals to 14 first-half points en route to a 64-53 victory in Muncie. Ball State held a 10-9 lead at the 11:28 mark when the Bulldogs reeled off 13 unanswered points to take control of the game with a 22-10 lead. A Charles Bass free throw ended BSU's scoring drought, but they would not hit another field goal until a Skip Mills jumper at the 2:01 mark, a span of 9:27 without a basket. Butler held a 33-14 halftime lead, and their advantage never fell below double digits for the remainder of the contest. The Bulldogs' biggest lead was at 44-24 with 13:03 to go. A 12-2 run got the Cardinals got within 10 at 46-36 at the 8:42 mark, but they could get no closer. The teams played basically even from that point forward, with Butler picking up a 64-53 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: A. J. Graves. The sophomore had his second 20-point effort in as many years against Ball State, finishing with a game-high 21 points along with four rebounds and three assists. He also connected on a pair of long bombs in the first half.

Brandon Crone had 16 points and six rebounds. Avery Sheets added with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Julian Betko finished with four points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Bruce Horan and Brandon Polk had three points each, while Brian Ligon and Drew Streicher had two apiece. BSU was led by Mills' 17 points.

The first half was probably Butler's best half of the season to date. They outshot Ball State 54%-29%, outrebounded them 18-9, and most importantly, outscored them 33-14. The Bulldogs seemed to lose a little focus and intensity in the second half--BSU shot 68%, outrebounded Butler 17-9, and BU was only 12-23 from the foul line--but still managed to keep BSU from ever seriously challenging for the lead. For the game, Butler outrebounded the Cardinals 27-26 and forced 16 BSU turnovers. A very nice win at a place where wins haven't been easy to come by.

The Bulldogs return home for a three-game home stand sandwiched around finals week. Up first are the Bradley Braves, who visit Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
