DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Following a pair of overtime games, the Butler Bulldogs ended their three-game homestand with a 78-49 romp over the Cleveland State Vikings. Butler used a 7-0 run to take an early 15-5 lead. CSU closed to within four points twice, the latter of which came at 17-13 with 10:09 left in the half. The Bulldogs scored 12 of the next 14 points to take control of the game, 29-15. Butler's lead would not fall below 13 from there. The Bulldogs led 34-20 at halftime. The second half was more of the same. Butler shot a blistering 71%, including 70% from three-point range, after halftime. The biggest lead came with 1:21 to go, when walk-on Ben Slaton's jumper gave Butler a 78-46 lead. Steve Gansey's three-pointer closed out the scoring, with the Bulldogs cruising to a 78-49 victory.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: I'll give the Butler bench some kudos here, as they each played very well. The five reserves combined for 17 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Julian Betko had six points, three assists and two steals; Brian Ligon added five points and five rebounds; Drew Streicher had four points and three rebounds; Slaton finished with two points; Marcus Nellems was the only Bulldog not to score, unfortunately missing a late dunk which would have put him in the books.

The starters played a tremendous game. Bruce Horan had a rare two-point basket along with 5-of-8 three-point shooting to finish with 17 points along with four rebounds. Brandon Polk added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocked shots. A. J. Graves had 14 points and three rebounds. Avery Sheets finished with 11 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Brandon Crone finished with four points, three rebounds, and three assists. CSU was led by Ije Nwankwo's 17 points.

I was concerned that after a pair of physically and emotionally draining overtime wins last week, the Bulldogs might be a little flat tonight. Boy was I wrong. The starters played with tremendous energy, and there was no drop-off in intensity when the reserves came in. Butler shot 61% for the game and 50% from three-point range, which was a bit unexpected considering how well CSU defended the Bulldogs in Butler's 55-51 win in Cleveland last month. Butler only attempted 11 three-pointers in that game; tonight, they made 11. And for the second time this season, Butler outrebounded the Vikings, earning a 27-26 advantage on the boards. A tremendous all-around effort for Butler.

The Bulldogs hit the road for a pair of games. Up first is a trip to Wright State to face the Raiders. Game time is Saturday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m. EST.
