DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs were sparked by Bruce Horan's seven first half three-pointers as they swept the season series with the UIC Flames, winning 67-39 at the UIC Pavilion. Butler held a 10-9 lead at the 15:58 mark of the first half when an 8-0 run put them in control. A Rocky Collum layup momentarily stopped the bleeding for UIC, but an 11-2 spurt by the Bulldogs blew the game wide open, giving Butler a 29-13 lead with 9:05 left in the half. Horan scored nine of those 11 points, all on three-pointers. UIC scored four unanswered points, then the Bulldogs ended the half on a 15-3 run to lead 44-20 at halftime. Horan had 21 points on 7-of-8 three-point shooting in the opening frame. He didn't score a point in the second half, but fortunately for Butler fans, he didn't need to. UIC twice cut the deficit to 20 early in the second half, but would get no closer. Butler's biggest lead was 33 points at 65-32 with 5:01 to go, and the Bulldogs cruised to a 67-39 win.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Horan. His 21 points led all scorers, and the seven three's were a new career high.

A. J. Graves finished with 14 points and five assists. Brandon Polk had 10 points. Avery Sheets also finished with 10 points to go with three assists. Brandon Crone added seven points and three rebounds. Brian Ligon had three points off the bench, while Julian Betko added two. UIC was led by Danijel Zoric's eight points.

Wow...the stats pretty much speak for themselves. Butler proved that the offensive outburst against the Flames at Hinkle earlier this month was no fluke. They shot 56% overall, 55% from three-point range, and had 19 assists on 25 field goals. The defense was also impressive: the Flames shot just 39% overall and 8% from three-point range, with Butler converting 15 UIC turnovers into 28 points. Not much more needs to be said.

Butler returns to Hinkle Fieldhouse for three straight home games. Up first is the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix. Game time is Thursday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
