DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Kent State's DeAndre Haynes nailed a three-pointer to face overtime, where the Golden Flashes prevailed over the Butler Bulldogs, 80-76. The first half saw eight ties and 3 lead changes. Butler led by six on three separate occasions, but the Flashes battled back to tie things up at 31 apiece at halftime. Butler took a 35-33 lead early in the second half and would not trail for the remainder of regulation. The Bulldogs led by as many as nine, and held a 66-61 lead with 1:05 to go. KSU's Omni Smith hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to two. A. J. Graves split a pair of free throws to put Butler up 67-64 with 0:20 left. Jay Youngblood answered with a pair of free throws of his own, but Graves knocked down two free throws to make it 69-66. That's when Haynes made his three-pointer over Brandon Polk to force overtime.

Youngblood's jumper with 1:06 left in OT gave KSU the lead for good at 76-74. Butler could only manage an Avery Sheets layup with 0:21 left from that point, with the Flashes hitting 6-of-8 free throws over the final 30 seconds to seal an 80-76 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sheets. Avery crossed the 1,000 career point mark today, finishing with 13 points and four rebounds. Congratulations to Avery.

Polk had 21 points and six rebounds. Graves added 13 points and four assists. Bruce Horan had 12 points, while Brandon Crone added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Julian Betko had three points off the bench, while fellow reserve Brian Ligon added two points and three rebounds. KSU was led by Youngblood's 25 points.

Butler commited 13 turnovers, a key factor in the Flashes' second half comeback. There were also several defensive breakdowns which led to easy KSU baskets. A tough loss, but certainly not one to dwell on.

Butler enters the final week of the regular season still in the hunt for the regular season title. First up will be a visit from the Youngstown State Penguins on Senior Night. Game time is Wednesday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
