DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS
The Butler Bulldogs battled back from an eleven-point second half deficit, but dropped their Horizon League road opener 64-59 to the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. UWM jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The Panthers led 19-12 at the 7:17 mark, then both teams went scoreless for the next four minutes. A Bruce Horan three-pointer ended the scoring drought, and another Horan three-pointer in the final minute of the half pulled Butler within five at halftime, 23-18. The Panthers took their biggest lead of the game on a layup by Joah Tucker to make it 37-26 with 15:24 remaining. Then the Bulldogs reeled off 12 unanswered points to take a 38-37 lead. Butler led 40-39 and again at 43-42, but the Panthers used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good. UWM's lead fluctuated between one and six for the rest of the game. A three-pointer from Brandon Crone made it 62-59 with 32 seconds to go, but the Panthers hit all six of their free throws in the final 47 seconds to ice a 64-59 victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: A. J. Graves. Graves led Butler with 20 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals.
Bruce Horan had 12 points and six rebounds. Avery Sheets added nine points, three rebounds, and three assists. Brandon Crone finished with eight points and six rebounds. Brandon Polk had six points and four rebounds before fouling out. Julian Betko added four points and three steals. UWM was led by Tucker's 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Butler missed way too many shots in the paint, particularly in the first half. The Bulldogs shot 41% from three-point range, but just 36% from inside the arc, including 3-of-15 (20%) in the first half. Polk in particular struggled in the opening frame, missing all seven of his shot attempts. UWM outrebounded Butler 38-29, but the Bulldogs actually had more second chance points (13-11). Tucker continued his solid play against Butler, recording his third double-double in as many games against the Dawgs.

The Bulldogs get a week to recover before hosting the Detroit Titans at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Game time is Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. EST.
