DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS
The Youngstown State Penguins earned their first ever Horizon League win over the Butler Bulldogs with a 64-62 victory at the Beeghly Center. Butler led by as many as nine in the first half at 19-10 at the 12:02 mark, but the Penguins slowly chipped away at the Bulldogs' lead until they were able to tie the game at halftime, 34-34. Butler led by eight twice in the second half, the latter of which coming at 55-47 with 7:46 to go. YSU scored eight straight to tie the game at 55 at the 4:28 mark. The two teams swapped 4-0 runs to knot things up again at 59 apiece with 1:48 left. A pair of YSU free throws were followed by an Avery Sheets three-pointer to give the Bulldogs their final points of the game, making it 62-61 with 0:49 remaining. Keston Roberts rebounded his own missed shot and Butler fouled Domonique Crawford, who gave YSU the lead for good with a pair of free throws. Brandon Polk was called for traveling, forcing the Bulldogs to foul. Quin Humphrey missed both free throws, but Crawford snagged the offensive rebound and Butler had to foul again. Derrick Harris made one of two foul shots, but A. J. Graves' desperation heave from half court was no good, and YSU came away with a 64-62 victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Bruce Horan. The senior nailed six three-pointers for 18 points.
Polk led the Bulldogs with 26 points and five rebounds, but his 8-of-16 foul shooting certainly was a factor in a two-point loss. Graves finished with eight points. Sheets added six points, four rebounds, and three assists. Brandon Crone had four points, four rebounds, and four assists. No bench players scored for Butler. YSU was led by Roberts' 23 points and Humphrey's double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Butler once again got handily out-rebounded, 41-22. Particularly damaging were second chance points, which YSU won 18-5. Often the Bulldogs can overcome that deficit with defense, but they only outscored the Penguins 9-8 in points off turnovers. Also troubling was Butler's play at the end of each half. The Bulldogs scored two points in the final three minutes of the first half and three points in the final 2:49 of the second half, getting outscored 15-5 over those two periods of time.

Butler looks to avoid an 0-3 road trip when the travel to Cleveland State to face the Vikings. Game time is Wednesday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Butler from what I saw relies to much on the 3 pointer. They need more production down low and you will be set.

YSU's fans may have made you guys miss a few free throws as well. Go Penguins!
