DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs earned a share of the Horizon League regular season championship with a 56-36 win over the Detroit Titans on Senior Day at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler jumped out to an 18-3 lead to take control early. Detroit held the Bulldogs to just four points over the next 11 minutes, closing to within 22-16 just before halftime. But Mike Green sank a three-point heave from just inside halfcourt to give the Bulldogs a 25-16 halftime lead. The Titans scored the first five points of the second half to pull within four points, but would get no closer. A 14-2 Butler run put the Bulldogs comfortably ahead at 39-23 with 11:02 to go, and they cruised to a 56-36 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Brandon Crone. With all due respect to Green, who has been putting up tremendous numbers lately, I have to go with the senior on Senior Day. Crone finished with 17 points and three assists, shooting 5-of-7 overall and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

Green had 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. A. J. Graves had 13 points and four rebounds. Pete Campbell added seven points off the bench, while fellow reserve Willie Veasley had four points and six rebounds. Brian Ligon finished with two points. Detroit was led by Ryvon Covile's nine points and 15 rebounds.

After some sub-par defensive efforts, it was good to see Butler finally put the clamps on an opponent. Detroit managed 28% shooting, including just 16% from three-point range. Butler also did a much better job of getting to the foul line, connecting on 17-of-22 free throws. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on their regular season HL co-championship!

With the #2 seed in the HL tournament, the Bulldogs earn a bye to the semifinals. The 6/7 game will take place Tuesday, February 27, at the #6 seed, with the winner advancing to face #3 Loyola on Friday, March 2, at Wright State's Nutter Center in Dayton, OH. Butler will then play the winner of Friday's game on Saturday, March 3, at 5:00 p.m. EST at the Nutter Center.
