DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs bounced back from a tough loss Saturday with a 68-58 win over the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix at the Resch Center. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. Eighteen of Butler's first 20 points came from behind the three-point line. The Bulldogs led 22-15 when an 8-0 run put the Phoenix on top 23-22. UWGB pushed its lead out to four, but a pair of free throws from Pete Campbell pulled the Bulldogs to within two at halftime, 30-28. UWGB took its biggest lead of the game at 37-32 with 16:42 remaining. Butler answered with a 6-0 run, then followed a UWGB basket with back-to-back three-pointers from Campbell to take control. The Phoenix pulled within two points twice, at 56-54 and again at 58-56 with 2:19 to go, but would get no closer. An A. J. Graves three-pointer gave the Bulldogs some breathing room, and Butler finished the game by going 7-of-8 at the free throw line to clinch the 68-58 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Brandon Crone. Brandon had 17 points and six rebounds along with a pair of steals.

Graves had an up-and-down night, finishing with 20 points on 6-of-17 shooting. Mike Green had 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Campbell finished with 11 points. Brian Ligon had four points and four rebounds. Julian Betko added three points and four rebounds. UWGB was led by Mike Schachtner's 13 points.

Butler came out with tremendous energy, which was good to see after such a physically and emotionally draining game 48 hours earlier. The defense turned it up a notch in the second half, limiting UWGB to 32% shooting in the frame. Butler managed 46% shooting overall and 40% from three-point range. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Phoenix 28-26 and held a commanding 19-2 advantage in points off of turnovers. A key win to keep hopes of hosting the HL tournament alive.

Butler returns home for its final two regular season games. Up first is a date with the Loyola Ramblers. Game time is Thursday, February 22 at 9:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on ESPNU, which is the reason for the later-than-usual start time. Hope to see you there.
