DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs reached the 20-win plateau for the ninth time in the past eleven seasons and avenged their lone Horizon League loss to date with a 71-45 victory over the UIC Flames at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs took control early, jumping out to a 14-1 lead, and never looked back. UIC's first field goal came with 14:48 left in the first half, and the Flames didn't crack double figures until the 3:50 mark. Butler held a commanding 39-16 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs took their largest lead of the game at 54-21 on a Pete Campbell three-pointer with 12:30 remaining and cruised to a 71-45 win.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Campbell and Mike Green. The two transfers continued to stake their claims to spots on the HL All-Newcomer team. Campbell led all scorers with 17 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range. He has now reached double figures in each game in 2007, a streak covering the past eight contests. Green finished with an impressive line of 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Willie Veasley scored a career-high eight points along with four rebounds off the bench. A trio of Bulldogs finished with seven points: Julian Betko, who added three rebounds; Brandon Crone, who survived a dive out of bounds which took him out of action briefly in the first half; and Drew Streicher, who also pulled down four rebounds. A. J. Graves had six points and dished out four assists. Elliot Engelmann scored his first two points as a Bulldog. Brian Ligon added a free throw for one point. UIC was led by Othyus Jeffers' double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

After struggling to find its offense in the first half of the game at UIC, Butler made sure there would not be a similarly slow start tonight. The Flames came out in a zone defense, and the Bulldogs responded by 15 of their first 17 points via the three-point shot. Eleven of Butler's 12 first half baskets were assisted, and the Bulldogs finished with 16 assists on 21 field goals for the game. The ball movement was crisp and the Bulldogs shot the ball with confidence. The defense, meanwhile, held UIC to 30% shooting for the game, including just 2-of-16 from three-point range after the Flames lit up the Dawgs for an 11-of-21 effort at the UIC Pavilion earlier this month. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on reaching the 20-win mark before the end of January.

Butler concludes its four-games-in-seven-days stretch when they travel to Youngstown State to face the Penguins. Game time is Wednesday, January 31, at 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised in Indianapolis on Comcast Local.
