DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs overcame a 13-point first half deficit and advanced to the finals of the NIT Season Tip-off with a 56-44 victory over the #22 Tennessee Volunteers at Madison Square Garden in New York. Butler held early leads of 4-0 and 6-5, but the Vols went on a 16-2 run to lead 21-8 with 7:49 left in the first half. Just as they did in the first two NIT games against Notre Dame and Indiana, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by double figures, and just as they did in those two games, they maintained their composure and slowly climbed back into the game. Butler outscored UT 14-4 to close the half, trailing 25-22 at halftime, and a 14-0 run which spanned both halves put the Bulldogs in the lead to stay. Butler's stifling defense limited the Vols to 3-of-29 shooting in the second half (10%), and the Bulldogs advanced to the finals with a 56-44 win.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Brian Ligon and Julian Betko. Big Lig's post defense and rebounding were impressive, finishing with five points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Betko provided the offensive spark, knocking down three triples en route to a career-high 15 points along with four steals.

A. J. Graves added 15 points. Brandon Crone had 10 points and four rebounds. Mike Green finished with five points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Drew Streicher added four points and four rebounds off the bench, while Willie Veasley added two points. UT was led by JaJuan Smith's 16 points.

Once again, Butler refused to quit when an opponent seemed to be taking control of the game. The second half defense was amazing, and once the offense got untracked, the Bulldogs took control. Another impressive comeback win.

Butler now faces the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the NIT Season Tip-off Championship. Game time is Friday, November 24, at 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
