PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Campbell and Mike Green. Yet another solid effort from the two transfers. Campbell set new Butler career highs with 20 points and six rebounds. He was 8-of-10 overall and 4-of-6 from three-point range, keeping alive his streak of reaching double figures in each game of 2007. Green set a new Butler career high and equalled his collegiate career best with 23 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists, both tops on the team.
A. J. Graves finished with 11 points and three assists. Brandon Crone added seven points and three rebounds. Streicher had four points, four rebounds, and three assists. Willie Veasley finished with three points and four rebounds, while Julian Betko added three points and three rebounds. YSU was led by Quin Humphrey's double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
It won't garner much attention nationally, but coming out of this stretch of four games in four states in seven days with a perfect 4-0 mark is quite impressive. The three road games of that four-game swing--at Loyola, Detroit and Youngstown State--were all losses last season for Butler. The Bulldogs showed no signs of fatigue, withstood an early burst from YSU which energized the crowd, took control of the game and never relinquished their double-figure lead. Green and Campbell were amazing, nearly outscoring the Penguins by themselves. And with the win and Wisconsin's loss at IU, Butler's 21-2 mark is tied with the Badgers for best record in the country. Not bad for a team picked to finish sixth in its conference.
The Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of Hinkle Fieldhouse, where they will host the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. Game time is Saturday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.
