MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs overcame a slow start and pulled away in the second half in defeating the Evansville Purple Aces 60-47 at Roberts Stadium. Evansville scored the game's first six points and jumped out to a 10-3 lead as Butler struggled at both ends of the floor. Butler's first lead came on a Pete Campbell three-pointer and a Drew Streicher layup to make it 19-17 at the 9:24 mark. It was back-and-forth for the remainder of the half. A. J. Graves buried a late three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 31-28 halftime lead. It was 35-32 when a 9-2 run put the Bulldogs up 10 at 44-34 with 12:27 left. The Aces pulled back to within seven at 46-39, but the Bulldogs held the the hosts scoreless for the next 4:39 to take control of the game. Butler's lead did not drop below 10 from that point forward as the Bulldogs pulled out a 60-47 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Graves. A. J. led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-10 from three point range. He also had three rebounds.

Streicher had eight points and three rebounds. Campbell and Zach Hahn had seven points apiece. Mike Green also had seven points along with six rebounds and four assists. Julian Betko added five points and four rebounds. Matt Howard finished with four points and seven rebounds. UE was led by Jason Holsinger's 16 points.

Graves' three just before halftime gave the Bulldogs a nice bit of momentum which carried over into the second half. After a slow start to the game, the defense really made things difficult for the Aces, especially in the second half when they managed just 19 points on 28% shooting. The Bulldogs have now held all three of their opponents thus far under 50 points. The offense struggled a bit, shooting 46% overall and 33% from behind the arch, but certainly enough to get the job done tonight.

Butler now makes the long trip to Anchorage, Alaska, to participate in the Great Alaska Shootout. Butler will play three games in four days over the Thanksgiving holiday. First up are the Michigan Wolverines. Game time is Wednesday, November 21, at 11:30 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
