MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak to Indiana State with a convincing 76-48 victory over the Sycamores at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler never trailed, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead. ISU closed to within three at 11-8 with 10:51 left in the half, but the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run and led by as many as 15 before a late Sycamore layup made the halftime score 27-14. ISU pulled to within nine on three separate occasions, the last of which came at 37-28 at the 13:35 mark, but would get no closer. It was 44-34 when a 10-0 Butler run put the hosts up by 20. ISU had a four-point possession to make it 54-38, but a decisive 16-0 Butler run put the game out of reach. The Bulldogs led by as many as 33 and cruised to a 76-48 win.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Graves. Several Bulldogs had impressive numbers, but I'll give the nod to the game's high scorer. Graves finished with 26 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range in the second half, and also had three rebounds and three steals. For the game, he was 8-of-12 overall and 6-of-9 from behind the arc along with a perfect 4-of-4 at the foul line.

Mike Green had 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Pete Campbell added 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Matt Howard finished with 10 points. Freshman Shawn Vanzant scored the first six points of his Butler career, while classmate Zach Hahn also scored his first three career points to go with three assists. Julian Betko added three points. Ben Slaton hit a pair of free throws for two points. ISU was led by Jay Tunnell and Gabe Moore, who finished with 10 points each.

Butler's first half defense was phenomenal, holding ISU to 21% shooting overall and 11% from three-point range. Even though they missed some open looks, the offense was pretty good in the first half (46% overall, 39% three-point), but the Bulldogs took it to another level after halftime, shooting 61% and 70%, respectively, en route to a 49-point second half. ISU held a 32-24 rebounding advantage, including 13 offensive rebounds leading to a 10-2 advantage in second chance points, but the Bulldogs outscored the Sycamores 21-10 in points off turnovers. A great way to kick off the home schedule.

Butler hits the road for its next four games. Before leaving for the Great Alaska Shootout, the Bulldogs head to Evansville for a game against the Purple Aces. Game time is Saturday, November 17, at 8:05 p.m.
