PLAYER OF THE GAME: Pete Campbell. Pete had his best game since injuring his knee against Ohio State, shooting 6-of-8 overall and 3-of-5 from three-point range for 15 points along with three rebounds.
Matt Howard led all scorers with 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks. A. J. Graves showed signs of breaking out of his shooting slump, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds. Mike Green added 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Willie Veasley continues to provide quality minutes off the bench, finishing with six points and seven rebounds. Avery Jukes and Shawn Vanzant added three points each, while Julian Betko had three points, five rebounds, and three assists. Grant Leiendecker scored his first two career points. Drew Streicher had two points, four assists, and three rebounds. UWM was led by Paige Paulsen's 14 points and six rebounds.
Butler's numbers looked pretty good in almost every category. They shot 45% overall, 42% from three-point range, outrebounded Milwaukee 41-33, had a 16-to-5 assist-to-turnover ratio, and held the Panthers to 35% shooting overall. The lone blemish was an 8-for-15 effort at the foul line (53%). It was good to see Campbell and Graves hit from the perimeter. Howard continues to stake his claim for Newcomer of the Year honors, and Green for Player of the Year.
Butler hits the road for a pair of HL games. Up first is the current league leader, the undefeated (as of this writing) Cleveland State Vikings. Game time is Thursday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m.
