PLAYER OF THE GAME: Betko. Julian was about the lone bright spot for Butler on offense, leading all scorers with 14 points to go with six rebounds. He connected of 4-of-6 three-pointers.
For the second straight game, no other Bulldogs reached double figures. Drew Streicher had seven points and four rebounds. The senior backcourt of A. J. Graves and Mike Green had just six points each on a combined 4-of-23 shooting, including only 2-of-13 from behind the arc. Green had four assists and four rebounds, while Graves pulled down three rebounds. Matt Howard had five points on a pair of rebound putbacks and a free throw to go with three blocks and a game-high eight rebounds. Willie Veasley had four points and four rebounds. WSU was led by Scottie Wilson and Todd Brown, who finished with 10 points apiece.
Wright State's defense disrupted Butler's offense the entire game. The spacing on offense was particularly bad, as there were few driving lanes that weren't clogged with Raiders. WSU was able to do what Detroit was not: take away both the backcourt scoring and Howard underneath. Although the Raiders committed more turnovers (14 to 12), they held a 15-8 advantage in points off turnovers, largely negating Butler's 15-7 advantage in second chance points. Butler crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 14 offensive rebounds which led to 12 more shot attempts, but they weren't able to connect on enough of them, shooting just 32% for the game.
Butler takes a week off for finals before returning to the hardwood against the Florida State Seminoles in the Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse. Game time is Saturday, December 15, at approximately 6:00 p.m. EST following the conclusion of the Purdue/Louisville game which tips at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on HDNet and on WNDY-TV. Hope to see you there.
