MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs used a fast start to build an early lead and defeat the Bradley Braves 87-75 at Carver Arena. Following a Bradley dunk to open the game, Butler jumped out to a 15-4 lead at the 15:21 mark. The Braves pulled to within eight twice before Butler pushed its advantage to as many as 15 at 36-21 before going into halftime leading by 13, 44-31. Bradley twice cut its deficit to five points in the second half, at 57-52 and again at 62-57, but could get no closer. An 11-0 Butler run put the visitors back up by double figures at 73-57 with 5:29 to go, and the Bulldogs' lead got no lower than nine from that point forward as they earned an 87-75 victory.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack. The freshman duo finished with 20 points each. Hayward did most of his damage in the first half, with 17 of his points coming in the opening frame. Gordon also had six rebounds and four assists, and was 5-of-9 from three-point range. Mack added eight rebounds and six assists, and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line.

Willie Veasley finished with 13 points and three rebounds. Matt Howard added nine points and five rebounds. Avery Jukes had nine points and five rebounds. Zach Hahn also finished with nine points. Ronald Nored had seven points, seven assists, and six rebounds along with three steals. Bradley was led by Eddren McCain's 18 points.

Butler's ball movement on offense was impressive, with 20 assists on 29 field goals. The Bulldogs shot 54% overall and 49% from three-point range, connecting on 13 triples. They also outrebounded the Braves 38-28. Bradley forced 15 Butler turnovers but managed only a 20-18 advantage in points off turnovers, largely a result of committing 13 miscues themselves. Another solid road victory for the Bulldogs.

Butler closes out its four-game road trip with a trip to Columbus to face the undefeated and nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Game time is Saturday, December 13, at 12:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
