MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs showed no signs of rust after a week off, jumping out to a 13-3 lead en route to a 73-53 win over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler scored the game's first four points and soon built a double-digit lead at 13-3 at the 15:23 mark. A Derrick O'Neil jumper briefly cut the margin under 10, but a Shelvin Mack three-pointer gave the Bulldogs a double-figure advantage they would not relinquish. Butler led 43-26 at halftime, dishing out 11 assists on 14 field goals with just one turnover. The Bulldogs took their biggest lead of the game at 52-28 with 17:52 to go. The second half wasn't as crisp as the first for Butler, but the Eagles got no closer than 16 (57-41) as the Bulldogs rolled to a 73-53 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Matt Howard. Matt fell a couple rebounds short of a second straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds. He was 8-of-10 from the foul line.

Willie Veasley had 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Mack finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and eight assists. Garrett Butcher had seven points off the bench. Gordon Hayward and Grant Leiendecker added six points each. Ronald Nored added five points and four steals. Avery Jukes also had five points to go with six rebounds.
