MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs used a decisive 45-3 run spanning both halves to overwhelm the IU-South Bend Titans 87-33 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler led 17-13 midway through the first half before blowing the game wide open, holding a 62-16 advantage with 14:09 to go in the second half. The Bulldogs cruised from there, winning 87-33.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Gordon Hayward. The freshman scored 15 points, connecting on all three of his three-point attempts, and also pulled down six rebounds.

Shelvin Mack led all scorers with 19 points to go with three rebounds and three assists. Avery Jukes added 15 points and six rebounds. Willie Veasley had 11 points and seven rebounds. Matt Howard finished with nine points, six rebounds, and five assists. Zach Hahn added six points and three rebounds. Garrett Butcher finished with four points and six rebounds. Grant Leiendecker and Nick Rodgers added three points each, while Ronald Nored had two points, five assists, and three rebounds. IUSB was led by eight points each from Ben Werner and Brebeuf graduate Mark Comparato.

Not too much to take from this one. The ball movement was impressive, with 22 assists on 30 made baskets. Junior walk-on Alex Anglin was the only Bulldog who played that didn't score, but he dished out two nice assists.

Butler welcomes its second Big Ten opponent to Hinkle in as many seasons when it hosts the Northwestern Wildcats. Game time is Wednesday, November 26, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Hope to see you there.

I wonder if the preseason logic to this game was to make sure the Pups got a
win early in the season. I think anyone who thought Butler would look this good
this early is either a "fan"atic or is lying. A game like this also guarantees
that all the players will see time early as well. I suspect that the bench
will shorten a bit ( as will the bench minutes) when we face the next few
games. Having said that, I enjoyed watching the game and seeing everyone
play. Jukes got some minutes and got some points. He needs that and I suspect
we will need him as well down the road. I wish he were more decisive around
the basket. The question in my mind is ( and I know it is almost blasphemous
to say) is who will be better by the end of the next season, Haywood, Howard or
Mack. This team will be scary by the end of next year, and they are just so
much fun to watch. They play the game the right way. Thanks for the stats
