MY POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs lost consecutive games for the first time in 111 contests, losing to the Milwaukee Panthers 63-60 at US Cellular Arena. Butler's only lead of the game came after a Zach Hahn jumper, which gave the Bulldogs an 8-7 advantage at the 13:40 mark of the first half. An 8-0 Panther run put the hosts on top to stay. Milwaukee's lead stayed between three and eight for the remainder of the half, with the Panthers on top 29-23 at halftime. Milwaukee pushed its advantage out to double-digits to start the second half. Butler cut it to five twice before the Panthers took their biggest lead of the game at 13, at 53-40 and again at 57-44 with 8:16 remaining. The Bulldogs held Milwaukee scoreless for nearly five minutes, using a 10-0 run to climb within striking distance. A Shelvin Mack three-pointer with 1:36 left made it a one-point game at 61-60, but the Bulldogs were unable to score again. James Eayrs split a pair of free throws to make it 62-60, then Avery Smith stole a pass from Mack to give the Panthers the ball back with 0:44 to go. Tone Boyle missed a driving layup but got his own rebound, forcing Butler to foul with 5.9 seconds left. Ricky Franklin made the second of his two free throws, setting up one final possession for the Bulldogs. But Hahn was unable to get his three-point attempt up before the buzzer sounded, and the Panthers emerged with a 63-60 victory

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Matt Howard. Matt followed a career-high on Sunday with 20 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

Mack finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Ronald Nored equaled his career high with 10 points to go with four assists and three rebounds. Willie Veasley had nine points and six rebounds. Hahn added five points. Gordon Hayward finished with four points and four rebounds. Shawn Vanzant had a point and three rebounds in his first action since injuring his knee February 5th at Detroit. Milwaukee was led by Eayrs' 15 points.

Butler held the Panthers to 35% shooting, but Milwaukee corralled 13 offensive rebounds leading to 19 second chance points. The Bulldogs were just 3-for-16 from three-point range (19%) after connecting on a season-high 15 triples against the Panthers last month at Hinkle. Butler's previous consecutive losses were setbacks to Loyola (74-64) and Youngstown State (64-62) in January of 2006.

Butler plays its final regular season road game when it travels to Davidson to face the Wildcats as part of ESPNU's BracketBusters. Game time is Saturday, February 21, at 12:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
