Part 2 of the Shawn Information

Shawns reign didn't last very long. On Thursday, February 13, 1997, during the Raw broadcast, Shawn forfeited the WWF Championship due to injuries and personal reasons. He claimed that he had "lost his smile". So with tears in his eyes and tears in his fans' eyes, he left the ring for -what many thought- the last time.

In March, Shawn showed up at Monday Night Raw. He said that he found his smile, it was "In San Antonio where I left it" he said. Shawn's glow and enthusiasm had returned, and he was no longer an unhappy camper. It was at this time that Shawn was named the special guest commentator at the Championship match at Wrestlemania 13.

It was soon after that Shawn reluctantly teamed up with Stone Cold Steve Austin challenged the then Champs Owen Hart and the British Bulldog. Shawn and Stone COld Steve Austin won the match and were declared the WWF Champions. Weeks after, they defended the belts successfully but there was a definate air of tension between the two. At the 1997 King of the Ring, Shawn and Stone Cold Steve Austin fought each other and the match was declared a double disqualification.

After the King of the Ring, Shawn left for sometime and then came back on the July 14 edition of Raw in his hometown of San Antonio,TX. He was interviewed that night made it clear how much he wanted to be a part of Summerslam. He even got down on his hands and knees and begged Vince McMahon to allow him to be involved. On the next edition of Raw, Shawn said he would be the special guest referee at Summerslam Championship Match between Bret Hart and The Undertaker. The catch was-if Shawn was biased towards the Undertaker, he would never wrestle in the U.S. again.

During the match, at Summerslam, Shawn tried to the best of his ability to be the best referee he could. At the ending of the match, Shawn yelled at Bret for using a chair on the Undertaker, and Bret spat at Shawn. Shawn saw red and he proceeded to attemp to hit Bret with the chair but hit the Undertaker instead. Bret went for the cover and Shawn reluctantly counted to 3 and left the ring immediatly in disgust.

Following Summerslam, a lot of Shawn's fans turned on him saying that he betrayed America. He 'got his edge back' and stated "either you are with me or against me, take your pick, either way,it's cool with me".

In one match,Shawn and Hunter Hearst Helmsley went against Mankind and the Undertaker. This match was a see saw match but at the end, Shawn hit the Undertaker with a chair. It was these two incidents that led up to the September 1997 In Your House. Shawn faced the Undertaker but it was declared a double disqualification.

Shawn then faced the British Bulldog at One Night Only. Shawn won the WWF European Championship. He is the first man to capture all 4 titles in the WWF.

Shawn Michaels faced the Undertaker at  Badd Blood . The match was a real fast paced free for all. When the smoke cleared, the bruised and bloodied Shawn was victorious.

The Survivor series brought Bret hart and Shawn Michaels together again. Although Bret says that Shawn cheated in order to win the title back, it was a very well fought match. Bret Hart applied the figure four leglock on Shawn, but Shawn managed to reverse it. In the end it was Bret's own sharpshooter that gave Shawn the title back once again.
