Dear Friend,

Our class just finished reading a really neat book called Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown. It is the story of a boy named Stanley Lambchop who found himself to be flat as a pancake after a bulletin board fell on him in his sleep. At first he and his family were alarmed at the situation, but soon Stanley discovered some advantages to his "flatness".

One advantage was that Stanley was able to go visit his friend in California by climbing into an envelope and being dropped in a mailbox! That is the part of the story that you are helping us to reinact.

Enclosed you will find a Flat Stanley which I created in our class. We ask that you take Stanley with you for the next couple of weeks and help him to have some adventures during his visit. Please keep in contact with us during his stay and let us know how Stanley is doing. We would appreciate emails, letters, cards, postcards, photographs, brochures, or anything else that you would like to send that would be of interest to our class and would help us learn about the places that Stanley is visiting.

You will notice that Stanley brought a change of clothes with him. Please use your imagination and decorate these clothes to represent the place where you live or something Stanley did during his stay with you. You may use any materials you wish and then glue (or otherwise attach) his new clothes on him. Then in two weeks please send Stanley back to me. Here is my address:
