Poems to help you through lifeSometimes I think the Fates must grin as we denounce them and insist, "The only reason we can't win is the fates themselves have missed." Yet, there lives on the ancient claim we win or lose within ourselves. The shining trophies on our shelves can never win tomorrow's game. So you and I know deeper down there is a chance to win the crown, but when we fail to give our best, we simply haven't met the test of giving all and saving none until the game is really won. Of showing what is meant by grit, of playing through and not letting up, it's bearing down that wins the cup. Of taking it and taking more until we gain the winning score of dreaming there's a goal ahead, of hoping when our dreams are dead, of praying when our hopes have fled. Yet, losing, not afraid to fall, if bravely we have given all, For who can ask more of a man than giving all, it seems to me, is not so Far from VICTORY. And so the fates are seldom wrong, no matter how they twist and wind; It's you and I who make our fates, we open up or close the gates on the ROAD AHEAD or the ROAD BEHIND.
What is Class?
Class never runs scared. It is sure-footed and confident in the knowledge that you can meet life head on and handle whatever comes along. Jacob had it. Esau didn't. Symbolically, we can look to Jacob's wrestling match with the angel. Those who have class have wrestled with their own personal "angel" and won a victory that marks them thereafter. Class never makes excuses. It takes its lumps and learns from past mistakes. Class is considerate of others. It knows that good manners are nothing more than a series of petty sacrifices. Class bespeaks an aristocracy that has nothing to do with ancestors or money. The most affluent blueblood can be totally without class while the descendant of a Welsh miner may ooze class from every pore. Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is ALREADY up and need not strive to look worse. Class can "walk with kings and keep its virtue and talk with crowds and keep the common touch." Everyone is comfortable with the person who has class--because he is comfortable with himself. If you have class you don't need much of anything else. If you don't have class, no matter what else you have--it doesn't make much difference.
Life Will Be Sweet
Life will be sweet if you can face defeat. For success will come to the one that moves on, not to those that mope over events that are done and gone. To move on, I say, you must plan ahead; plan everyday. Set goals to overcome and do not worry about any type of conundrum. Go at a constant pace and you shall win the race, but if you are the first to fall do not worry, just make sure you're the first to get up in a hurry.
Wake up early, stay up late do whatever it takes to become great. Do not listen to those that say, “it is to late in the day”. Work hard at your goal and you will see it can become reality.
When you reach your goal don't stop to admire, just say to yourself
“Now I'm here” and set your next goal a little higher. If you aren't the
best today just keep improving everyday because someday when you compete,
you will not be the one, that has to face defeat.
The Man in the Glass
When you get what you want in your struggle for self, and the world makes you King for a day just go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what THAT man has to say. For it isn't your father or mother or wife whose judgment upon you must pass; the fellow whose verdict counts most in your life is the one staring back from the glass. Some people may think you a straight-shootin chum and call you a wonderful guy, but the man in the glass says you're only a bum if you can't look him straight in the eye. He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest, for he's with you clear up to the end and you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test if the man in the glass is your friend. You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years and get pats on the back as you pass, but your final reward will be heartaches and tears if you've cheated the man in the glass.
