NEWS INDEX FOR JUNE 1998:

  1. June's Newsletter is Dedicated in honor and to the Memory of June Amy Boddy for her scrutinizing mind and cheerful spirit that graced many of my long hours of work and adventures in bringing Building-integrated Photovoltaics from the science laboratory and the inventor's shelf to mainstream commerce. June was truly a Daughter of the American Revolution who throughout her life furthered important activities for the betterment of this nation. She was a prolific musician and quite skilled as a performing violinist. Her guiding example of American citizenry and community service will ever light our path to success. Thank you June! May Divine Grace Bless You And Keep You, Always!

  2. CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION: In response to my many phone calls and letters requesting inclusion of demand-site consumer technology as a choice in deregulation and restructuring education packets mailed to all California consumers, Michael D. McNamara, Chief of the Market Development Branch of the Office of Ratepayer Advocates wrote me a letter dated May 28th to request my participation in his request for an Order Instituting Rulemaking sent to President Bilas June 5th, 1998. I thought the rules were in place. How can the California Energy Commission offer a $3 rabate for grid-connected solar electric rooftops if there are no industry rules and standards guiding its installation and consumer protection? This is a great honor to have been the catalyst for such an historic process which is obviously needed for consumer and technician safety, however this must not be used as an excuse to delay the inclusion of self-generation as a choice in CPUC mailers and all of their documents mentioning consumer choice in electricity consumption {Assembly Bill 1890 Section 392-394}.

Consumers and citizens of the United States may participate in this request and rulemaking officially until the 15th of June, however, a citizen may request or submit related information to the CPUC. You can view a sample of the cosign letter submitted with the request for an Order Instituting Rulemaking into the Utility Distribution Company's role in Distributed Generation (DG). The Statement of Signatories, Definition of Terms and Core Questions are reproduced on our website for your information. Please contact the CPUC Office of Ratepayer Advocates directly to request a copy be mailed to you.

  3. California Energy Commission - Notice of Hearing June 3rd, 1998 for Proposals on How to Manage the $5.4 million Consumer Education Trust Fund for the California Renewables Technology Program Our testimony is reproduced on-line for your information.

MILLION SOLAR ROOFTOPS PROGRAM BY 2010 FOR EUROPEAN COMMISSION - Plan To Install 500,000 EC & 500,000 3rd World

"Photovoltaics (PV) is a high technology with strong export potential in a very competitive global market and fierce competition with Japan and the USA. There is a very motivated PV industry in Europe which should be supported in its effort to bring domestic and export markets off the ground. Besides the leading European oil and other big companies, many SMEs are active in the field. There is much scope for their number to increase and for large numbers of jobs to be created."
