Renewables Technology Energy Consumer Education Program (RECE)
I. Renewable Energy Education and Information Resources:

Projects Proposed By SDC:
*Community Renewables Technology Fair for Consumer Education
-bring all industry players together for community events
to educate consumer and facilitate green projects
*National Solar Savings Bond Program
---primarily for K through 12
*Electronic PV Billboard Monitors:
Look Like Smog Reports Indicating Renewables kWh Output
*Create Baseball Cards of Renewables Technology
-w/stats on manufacturers, products, service and incentives.
*Public Service Announcements are often sponsored so only
spend CEC resources to design awareness-building message:
-A good example would be to feature 300 kilowatt peak rooftop
on Georgetown University Intercultural Center installed in
1984 on campus where President Clinton trained for his career
-Many people using building don't know beautiful rooftop is
PV and creating over 50% of electricity consumed in building.
*At March for Peaceful Energy Event October 1998 Washington, DC:
include CEC Renewables Technology Consumer Education Fair
w/product exhibits, system designers, estimates, etc.
Make resources available to industry professionals:
--for fee or sponsored presentations
--need more sponsorship of small business in
renewables technology design and installation
--development resources and related training
Develop local programs to educate public like fundraising
dinners & special events -we have included some or our programs:
*See our program: Solar Winter Gala - A Week W/Jimmy Stewart
*Provide exhibits and presentations in community coordinated
and sponsored by professional groups like the
Chamber of Commerce, IEEE & AIA.
*better web site placement on super highway
*provide better consumer access to industry small businesses
*talk shows
*speaking engagements
*community workshops independently and with local institutions
*facilitate community fundraisers to offset costs of
renewables technology deployment and education
CONSUMER SERVICE PESONNEL EDUCATE CONSUMERS:
*Educate the Industry, First -They Will Educate Consumers, Daily
CONSUMERS EDUCATE THE CONSUMER EDUCATORS:
*Provide opportunities for consumers to make comments.
*Bring CEC into communities around state
--they will educate consumers as they learn.
*Get a panel discussion on the Oprah Winfrey Show:
--ask for viewer feedback
--next year a book/video
*Word of Mouth -spread the word -brochures
