Some of the older (40+) Israeli Net Nuts decided to meet and see how we really look and act and behave without the protection of the IRC.
The initiative for the meeting came from our beloved Galeela who did all the arrangements. She also recruited me to prepare the welcome sign and name tags. The purpose of the meeting was to let us see each other in real life and with our spouses (so they can see the people that make us act so childish at the computer).
The meeting was set for July 28th 1996 in Tel-Aviv and we came from all over (Haifa, Jerusalem etc.). It was held in a small restaurant in a Tel-Aviv hotel and included a get together and a luncheon.
We arrived and set up the sign that said:
The cameras clicked to save the occasion and we all started inquiring about each other.
The people there were Galeela (the organizer), gingit (a regular on #41plus), her husband sunnyman_ (a regular on #coffeetable), shimon (a regular on #41plus) and his wife Shoshana, chhi, slingshot, propolis, my wife Orah and me JD a.k.a. Eitan.
We found out that the people are really great in real life and not only on IRC. It was easy to strike a conversation for we knew each other from the net and wanted to know more. Since Israel is quite small, we found out we had common knowledge of other people and places from other periods of our lives. The NonIRC spouses also had a common subject "freaky spouses."
I hope people who read this will also enjoy real life meetings of their IRC friends. Try it and like it. You all are a great bunch of people.
