Records state he was 23 and she was 21 years of age. His occupation listed as a farmer. In remarks section, "Samuel Ware swears both parties are over twenty-one years of age". Married by J.T. Watson.As the story is told by several close relations, Samuel went to the courthouse and swore both were over twenty-one, but Elizabeth was not! She was nineteen! Her family were fit to be tied over this and when the Sheriff found out they started looking for Samuel and he had to go into hiding until everyone calmed down.
Edward died July 1985 in Lynchburg, Virginia of prostate cancer and is buried at the Fort Hill Memerial Park in Lynchburg.
