tips for buying shrubs
look for healthy leaves and and new growth
ask about guarantees, most nurseries carry a one year guarantee on nursery stock
be sure to save your receipt, and if you have problems keep what is left of the plant.
Planting tips
plant at the same depth as the plant is in the pot
use a root stimulator in your first watering
water 2-3 times a week depending on the weather
avoid over watering. a slow soak is better...if you don't have
a soaker hose, cut a couple of holes in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket
and let the water drain out slowly near the plant
water early in the day to avoid fungus disease
fertilize with a good quality flowering shrub food

Shrubs
There are so many different shrubs that show great fall color.
I have written a brief discription of a few of them. Photos will be coming
soon, I hope!
Lilac Miss Kim, A hardy miniture lilac from Korea. It blooms in
the spring later than other lilacs. Growing to height of 4-6 feet, this
is an easy shrub to care for. The blooms are a pale lavender smaller
in size than a normal lilac, however they are very fragrant.
What is really special about this plant is a wonderful display in the
fall. It's glossy deep green
foilage turns to a burgandy-red color in the fall of the year.
Clethra sweet pepperbushgrows from 3-8 feet high. It is
a nice addition to mixed borders. Sun or shade will do for this plant.
In July and August, it is covered with intensely fragrant white or pink
spike blooms. It's fall color is a golden yellow lasting late into the
season.
Hydrangea oakleaf, (H. quercifolia) is truly a plant for all seasons.
Spring time shows off it's oakleaf shaped leaves in a shade of deep green.
Blooms of creamy white appear in June and July, gradually turning to
shades of rose and pink. Fall brings in the gorgeous shades of red, orange and purple to it's foilage.
and winter shows off it's peeling cinnamon colored bark.
This plant does equally well in sun or shade growing to a height of 4-6
feet. I like to use it as a speciman plant in perennial beds.
